Bonaparte, IA – Ken Burns grew up in Bonaparte, which is a small town of roughly 450 people tucked in along the Des Moines River.

He and his wife, Sue, returned to his hometown after their personal and professional lives took them across the country and around the world.

They have been very active in Van Buren County during their time.

Their latest endeavor is the Burns Gallery and Tea Emporium, which is located at 509 First Street in Bonaparte.

The gallery currently features the works of artists from across the United States, including Alaska and Arizona.

Sue Burns says there is also a strong, local feel to the gallery.

She says displays will rotate each month.

The gallery will also feature various blends of tea for sample or purchase.

The grand opening will run from 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. on both Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13.
