The Clark County School District is getting ready for a major technology upgrade.
The district is taking part in the enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies (eMINTS) program through the University of Missouri.
Superintendent Ritchie Kracht lap-top computers will be made available for all 7th and 8th grade students during the upcoming school year.
He says the idea is to see if additional technology helps improve test scores.
Kract says Clark County is one of the largest districts in the state to take part in the program, which is funded through a federal grant.
Donnellson, IA
New signs are going up to mark the Historic Hills Byway through southeast Iowa.
The signs will be located in six counties, including Lee and Van Buren.
They will feature the Eastern Redbud Tree.
There is also a new website in the works for Iowa's byways.
Keokuk, IA
Keokuk is updating its charter.
City Council members are elected to 4-year terms, but the charter only allows for 2-year terms.
Mayor Tom Marion says city staff has yet to determine when or how the change was made, so the city council is considering an update to the charter to allow for 4-year terms.
Marion does not believe past votes will be challenged because of the change.
He says the update will also reflect when certain races will appear on a ballot.
Lee County, IA
The courts could be forced to determine the future of the juvenile detention facility in Lee County.
Appanoose County has filed a lawsuit in its attempt to leave the South Iowa Area Detention Service Agency with 1/8 of its assets.
Lee County Supervisor Larry Kruse says that request is not feasible as it could bankrupt the agency.
He says the oversight board is weighing its options based on the pending lawsuit.
