Clean-Up To Begin in Clark County Schools

Kahoka, MO – The Clark County School Board has hired Service Master by Lewellen's to clean-up Blackhawk and Running Fox Elementary Schools.

The school district discovered mold in both buildings just a few days before the start of the new year.

Classes were cancelled for two days with elementary school students now attending classes in the middle and high schools.

Superintendent Ritchie Kracht says Kirksville-based Service Master by Lewellen's has already started bringing supplies and equipment to the buildings.

Clean-up should get underway on Monday, August 29.

He says the goal is to test the quality of the air in both buildings in mid-to-late September.

The elementary students will return to their schools once the air is considered safe.

Kracht says the clean-up will cost the district nearly $100,000.

Meanwhile, Culver-Stockton College will loan the district age-appropriate books to help elementary students and teachers while they are out of their classrooms.

The college hopes to start delivering the books next week.
