SCIOTA, IL – Seniors at West Prairie High School surpassed the state average on the ACT test.
Superintendent Jonathan Heerboth said the seniors exceded the state average in all four areas-English, reading, math and science. He credits a combination of hard work by teachers in preparing students. He said a recent trend might also have raised scores. "It's been kind of a slow process of having people choose more academic courses that are more related to university entrance and we have fewer people taking vocational-educational classes, for example."
The district's composite score was 21.4. The state average was 20.9. Wes Prairie High School seniors did especially well on the English component. They exceeded the state average by three full points. The seniors exceeded the state average in math by seven-tenths of a point They exceeded the state average in reading by four-tenths of a point.
Heerboth said the students also scored above the national average with their composite score
