Lee County, IA –
Burlington, IA
There will be a primary for this year's city election in Burlington.
Seven people beat the deadline to file for two open seats on the city council.
Shane McCampbell
Richard Lemke
Chuck Griffin
Becky Anderson
Eric Renteria
Mike Shaver
Mary Baker.
Baker has since presented a letter to Burlington's City Clerk withdrawing from the race.
The list does not include the two incumbents: Bill Ell and Matt Murray.
Ell also serves as mayor, so his decision to not seek re-election means Burlington will have a new mayor come January.
The city only holds a primary if there are five or more city council candidates.
The top four vote-getters on October 11th will move on to the November general election.
Canton, MO
More than 450 volunteers took part in Culver-Stockton College's Second Annual Extreme Dome Makeover.
The one-day event focused on the homes of four Canton, MO residents and several service projects throughout the community.
All told, volunteers worked for 2,250 hours using 60 gallons of paint, one ton of water and four tons of rock.
Keokuk, IA
September is Amnesty Month for the Keokuk Public Library.
Fines will be reduced by $1 for every non-perishable food item a patron brings in for donation to the Salvation Army of Keokuk.
The agreement also covers donations to FOKAS (Friends of Keokuk Animal Services).
Amnesty is not available to those with large fines or those already in collection status.
