Donnellson, IA

A central-Illinois woman is dead following a two vehicle accident near Donnellson Wednesday afternoon.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says Janet Threet, 76, of Peoria, IL was traveling west on Highway 2 when her vehicle crossed the center line.

Robbie Vass, 32, of Carthage, IL was traveling east at the time.

Authorities say Vass stopped along the edge of the highway but that was not enough to avoid the collision.

Threet died at the scene. Vass and a passenger were transported to Fort Madison Community Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Keokuk, IA

Roquette America's Keokuk plant released about 40,000 gallons of wastewater into the Mississippi River over the weekend.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a tank overflowed at about 1:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 3.

It's unclear what caused the overflow which lasted about 15 minutes.

The speed and volume of the river led the agency to not require Roquette America to test the water quality near the plant.

The DNR says large amounts of wastewater can deplete oxygen in the water.
