Monmouth, IL – An art exhibit in Monmouth is developing a reputation that extends beyond this region.

The juried exhibit 64 Arts is on display at the Buchanan Center for the Arts through October 22. The third annual show includes paintings, photos, sculptures, and more.

The artists come from about two dozen states plus Canada. Illinois Arts Council Executive Director Terry Scrogum believes that says something about the exhibit.

"It tells you that it is of very good quality and that it is gaining a reputation as something important," Scrogum said.

The IAC provides funding assistance to the Buchanan Center.

Buchanan Center Director Susan Twomey said the exhibit includes 63 pieces from 57 artists. Almost 400 pieces were considered for the show.

"I respect and am glad that we can view art from across the country here in our own backyard," Twomey said. "The fact that you can come here and not have to take an expensive trip to a large city in order to see good quality professional work."

The Mary Jane Twomey Award for Best in Show in this year's 64 Arts exhibit was given to the piece Blue Void by Todd Pospichal of Granger, IN.

Juror Adrian Arleo described it as a layering of calligraphic strokes on a dark background. She said it jumps from mandala to the Milky Way to micro-organisms.
