Recount of Keokuk School Board Race Complete

Keokuk, IA – Lee County Auditor Anne Pedersen says a recount of the votes in the race for four seats on the Keokuk School Board did not change the results.

She says 4th place finisher John Davis still has 368 votes while 6th place finisher Chris Lindner remains at 317 votes.

Lindner asked for the recount after unofficial results showing his winning a seat on the board were incorrectly published on Lee County's election website.

Pedersen says the recount got underway at 10:00 the morning of Thursday, Sept. 22.

It took about 3.5 hours to complete.

Pedersen says a full machine count of all votes was followed by a hand county of the votes cast in Keokuk's First precinct.

Election Deputy Denise Fraise says one absentee ballot was counted that was not added election night.

She says it had checkmarks instead of ovals, but the recount board accepted it.

Fraise says even with the extra ballot, the results will remain as is because the vote has already been canvassed.

The recount board consisted of current school board members Tyler McGhghy (Davis's representative) and Roger Kokemuller (Lindner's representative) and the district's business manager Greg Reynolds.

Lindner will not be refunded the $100 he had to pay for the recount because the final results did not change.

This is the first recount in Lee County in more than three years.
