Burlington, IA – Burlington's Planning and Zoning Commission is not on board with a request to build duplex condos off of Florence Avenue.
The plan calls for five buildings with a total of 10 units.
City Manager Doug Worden says the commission is concerned about drainage issues and property placement.
He says the commission also feels that a Planned Unit Development Overlay Zone is not needed in that area.
A PUD sets forth certain construction guidelines for a project.
In this case, the property in question is zoned for residential use, which does not allow duplexes.
Worden says, despite the opposition, the city council could still approve the project.
It would require a supermajority of the panel, which would be 4 of the 5 members.
Residents can weigh in on the proposal Monday, October 3.
The Burlington City Council will hold a public hearing during its weekly meeting, which gets underway at 6:30 P.M. at city hall.
An initial vote could take place after the hearing.
