Keokuk Man Pleads Not Guilty To Murder

Keokuk, IA – Adam Pitman, 23, of Keokuk filed his plea of not guilty to 1st Degree Murder in writing on October 6.

He also filed documents, at that time, to waive his right to a speedy trial and to announce his plans to rely on three defenses.

Intoxication By Drugs
Diminished Capacity
Insanity

Pitman was pulled over by Fort Madison police in the early morning hours of August 30 for driving with no tail lights.

Authorities say it was during that traffic stop that he told the officer that he had used an electrical cord to kill his mother.

Pitman also allegedly said to send police officers to her home at 1602 Concert Street.

Officers responded to the scene and found the body of Rosa Pitman, 46.

The State Medical Examiner ruled that Pitman died from strangulation.

Adam Pitman remains in the Lee County Jail on a $2-million cash only bond.

1st Degree Murder carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for December 5.

The case would then go to trial on December 13.
