Montrose, IA – The Lee County Board of Supervisors had planned to hold community meetings in Wever, Croton, and Mooar.
They were initially scheduled for later this month and early next month.
The idea was to see if residents still wanted to work with RUSS.
The Fairfield-based , multi-county organization helps unincorporated communities develop their own sewer systems.
RUSS suggested the county delay the meetings.
That's because questions surfaced as to whether Lee County was actually a member of the organization.
Assistant Board Secretary BJ Stephens says RUSS informed the county that it could not find a copy of the 28E agreement that includes Lee County.
It appears those questions were quickly answered.
The Iowa Secretary of State's website shows a copy of a 2006 agreement that names Lee County as a member of RUSS.
Despite that discovery, the meetings will likely remain on hold.
Chairman Ernie Schiller says that will give the board more time to resolve a couple of issues.
They include whether to allow future customers to opt out of the system and how to determine community support.
Croton, Mooar, and Wever had previously voted to work with RUSS on their own sewer systems.
