Keokuk, IA – Dan Winn has served as at-large alderman for the last four years.
Instead of seeking re-election, he is running for mayor.
Winn says his involvement in his local church, credit union board, and on the Keokuk Downtown Properties Board allow him to bring a different perspective to the race.
He says the city is not going in a different direction, adding that it will take more people getting involved to turn things around.
Winn says he would seek grant money and private investments to enhance the downtown district.
One of his top priorities, come budget time, would be Keokuk's streets.
Winn says he would focus on high-traffic streets while also looking at neglected streets, especially on the city's south side.
He says he would push for a change in policy to prevent the gravel roads that occurred during the latest phase of the sewer separation project.
Winn says he sees Keokuk's mayor as a facilitator. He says that would start by meeting with each employee to see what they do and what they need from the city.
Winn says the city should cover part of the cost for extending sewer lines to help residents connect and replace their aging septic tanks.
Alcohol consumption has led to a series of split votes by the city council.
Winn says alcohol should be allowed in locations where it has been in the past. He says places like Rand Park and McCready Park should remain dry.
He also supports the adoption of a more clear noise ordinance.
