Keokuk, IA – Carol Mardis says she loves Keokuk and has a passion to serve her city.
She says that is why she ran for Mayor in 2009.
Mardis says she is running again, this year, because the passion is still there and because she says the same problems facing Keokuk, two years ago, are still relevant.
Mardis says her background includes a masters degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa and multiple city and county government jobs in Iowa, Texas, and Kentucky.
She says she has the background and experience needed to succeed in areas such as balancing the city's budget, proposing legislation, and recruiting businesses.
Mardis says two of her priorities as mayor would be the downtown district and Keokuk's streets.
She says a long-range street plan is needed that focuses on both thoroughfares and residential streets, with input from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Mardis says she would also like to see requirements that buildings in downtown Keokuk have some form of insurance to make sure the city is not on the hook for demolition/clean-up expenses.
