Keokuk, IA – Kevin Helmick says he is running for the 6th ward seat on the Keokuk City Council so he can give back to his hometown.

He moved away for about 11 years but returned six years ago.

Helmick says the issue that sparked his interest in the city council was the new garbage pick-up system.

He says he was pretty upset because of the size of the containers, how the trucks only pick them up on one side, and how the trucks damage the alleys due to their size.

Helmick says since he has a complaint, he needs to do something about it.

His top priority is job growth through industrial expansion/establishment.

Helmick says every option must be explored including major tax breaks.

He says that will help improve infrastructure because of the expansion of the tax base.

Helmick says if street repairs are possible, the city should look at less expensive options to improve more streets.
