Keokuk, IA – John Helenthal feels he brings a unique perspective to the race for one of the at-large seats on the Keokuk City Council.
He says, if elected, he would reach out to everyone in the city because he feels residents have great ideas for improving Keokuk that have not even been considered.
His plan would include open forums when various issues arise.
Helenthal says one such instance would be alcohol on public property.
Helenthal says his background in construction, specifically sewer work, would greatly benefit the city with its multi-year, multi-million dollar sewer separation program underway.
He also considers himself a problem-solver and a trouble-shooter.
Helenthal wants to see the city live within its means and avoid borrowing money so as to not put more of a financial burden on Keokuk residents.
He also says the city should not be on the hook for extending sewer lines for homes not on the current system.
He says a 75%/25% split of the costs (homeowner vs. city) is a good place to start.
