Burlington, IA – Shane McCampbell says he would bring leadership and strong communication skills to the Burlington City Council.

He says he entered the race after initially trying to recruit people to run for the office.

McCampbell says those he approached ended up flipping it around and encouraging him to run.

He says, if elected, he would go out into the community and find out what people want. The ultimate goal of that would be to get them to buy into Burlington and get more involved in improving its future.

McCampbell says one of his top priorities is to update the city's budget process.

He says it is far too difficult for the average person to understand the lengthy document, which makes it less likely for constituents to offer suggestions.

McCampbell says he would push for a more user friendly document to be created.

One area McCampbell has some concerns about is replacing outgoing City Manager Doug Worden.

McCampbell says he would like to see someone who is open, accountable, and willing to work in the position of city liaison, not city manager.

He does not believe the city manager should not have as much power as the position currently carries.
