No Confidence Vote Against SCC President

West Burlington, IA – An organization representing full- and part-time faculty and staff at Southeastern Community College says it is not satisfied with the college's current direction.

President Chris Sedlack says the Higher Education Association has had concerns about the working environment for SCC employees for the last few years.

He says an increasing level of fear and distrust prompted a confidence vote in President Beverly Simone.

Dr. Simone joined the college six years ago.

Sedlack says ballots were mailed to the 70 HEA members.

He says 52 ballots were returned with 49 indicating no confidence in Simone.

A key area of concern for the HEA is the college's decision to not fill a nursing position at the Keokuk campus.

The HEA believes the administration did not adequately consider the recommendation of the Iowa Board of Nursing to expand or even maintain the program.

Sedlack says he has discussed a number of issues with Dr. Simone.

He says it is up to the Board of Trustees to decide whether she should remain President of SCC.

The trustees did not discuss the no-confidence vote during their meeting earlier this week.
