Keokuk, IA – Keokuk Mayor Tom Marion says he is seeking a second term in office because he still has work to do.

He says one of his top priorities would job creation.

Marion says he has developed a strong relationship with representatives of several industries interested in Keokuk.

He says it is essential to carry on that continuity.

Marion says a key to economic development is improving the appearance of the city.

He says that starts with continuing to offer tax abatements, access to TIF funding, and the targeted jobs withholding tax credits for businesses.

Marion says the idea is to encourage growth in downtown Keokuk.

He says he would also push for the creation of an asbestos inspection program to make sure the buildings are maintained at least to a minimal degree.

The mayor says another of his priorities is to fix up the streets that were torn up as part of a major sewer project near Wells-Carey Elementary.

Marion says he would also be open to the idea of using materials outside of concrete if it means more streets can be repaired.

He says the city council should drive around Keokuk during a public workshop to determine where the worst streets are.
