MACOMB, IL – Macomb's high school colors will become the district's colors starting next school year. The high school uses black and orange. The junior high school currently uses blue and white.
Superintendent Alene Reuschel said the change is not to "brand" the school district but it's designed to create a single identity as students go through the school system.
She said, "It's all about the fact that we are one entity. We are Macomb and we are part of something much larger than a building. So it's a way for us to identify."
Reuschel said the change will be made gradually. She said the district won't replace perfectly good items like padding on the walls in the gym at Edison Elementary School just because they aren't black and orange.
Ultimately, the junior high school will have to decide whether to change its team mascot as well. Junior high teams are known as "Mustangs." The high school teams are known as the "Bombers."
