MACOMB, IL – The Macomb School District is investigating what new technology to integrate into its classrooms.
Superintendent Alene Reuschel said the district will begin with the purchase of a few tablet computers. She said the district already uses some tablet and netbook computers.
She also said the district will look at other technology such as "clickers." Those are remote wireless devices that allow students to respond electronically in class to presentations or quizzes.
The district might also purchase smart boards. The superintendent said the goal is not to buy new gadgets.
Reuschel said, "It's not so much what we're buying. It's how we're going to use the technology. It's not about doing computers or doing tech or having tech in the room. It's about what is it that we need to do to advance education for children."
She said the district will use carryover money from a federal technology grant to pay for the technology. Federal budget cuts meant the district did not get the third installment of the grant. Reuschel said the district has about $25,000 left from last year's grant.
