Macomb, IL – Four people in Macomb city management will receive bonuses of $1,500 each for helping fill a key position.
They are City Administrator Dean Torreson, Operations Manager Jason Bainter, Water Manager Kent Cox, and Waste Water Manager Daryl Phillips. They each took on additional duties as the city search for a new public works director.
"Some more administrative duties than they would have normally been tasked with doing in their normal day-to-day operations," said Mayor Mike Inman.
"(They) attended a lot more meetings collectively to give us a full perspective of what was going on in those shops that we would expect a public works director to know."
He also said Torreson handled additional grant-related paperwork that would have normally been taken care of by the public works director.
The public works director position became vacant in May when Inman chose not to reappoint Walter Burnett. A lengthy search failed to yield a new public works director so Bainter has agreed to fill the position on an interim basis.
Brad Whitford was promoted to fill Bainter's old position on an interim basis.
"They did not solicit these promotions. They're both highly dedicated to the community. They have a great work ethic," said Inman, who called both "great leaders."
There will be a nine-month review period for Bainter and Whitford. If they work out, the "interim" tag will be removed from their job titles.
