News Briefs from Macomb City Hall

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen this week took final action on the proposed tax levy, new ward boundaries, and a local landmark.

The Tax Levy.

Macomb City Administrator Dean Torreson said next year's proposed tax levy will have less of an impact on homeowners than what was originally announced. He said it will add a $4.12 to the tax bill on a $90,000 home. The city initially estimated it would add $9.90. The levy was unanimously approved by aldermen.

New Ward Boundaries

Aldermen also gave final and unanimous approval to new ward boundaries. The city
is required by state law to redistrict from seven wards to five because its population fell below 20,000 in the latest census. Aldermen will be elected from those new wards in 2013. The city will continue to have two aldermen at large.

Landmark Status for Shelter House

There is now a local historical landmark in Macomb. Aldermen agreed to the designation for the stone shelter house in Glenwood Park. The unique structure was built during the 1930s. The designation prevents anyone from making changes to the shelter house without a review and approval from the city.
