The McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency will open flood damage assessment centers to help those whose property was damaged by April’s heavy rains and floods.

Governor Quinn has declared McDonough County and 47 other counties a disaster. The Governor has asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to declare the State of Illinois a disaster and has asked for Federal assistance. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) has asked that ESDA begin collecting data that is critical in supporting the Governor’s request to FEMA.
Beginning on Friday May 3, McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) Director Dan Kreps will be opening Damage Assessment Centers throughout the County. With the help of volunteers, ESDA will be collecting information about damages caused to homes and businesses resulting from the heavy rains and flooding that occurred April 17-18. It is vital that you sign up at one of the Centers below or FEMA will not know that you had any damage.
Kreps is advising everyone in McDonough County who sustained damage due to the floods and heavy rains April 17-18 to visit one of the following centers. Residents only need to visit one site to be registered and should visit the center closest to them.
- Adair Fire House, Friday May 3, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm
- Bardolph Community Center, Monday May 6, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm
- Blandinsville Fire House, Monday May 6, 4pm-7pm
- Bushnell City Hall, May 3, 6, 7, 8, 7am-4pm each day
- Colchester City Hall, May 6 & 7, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm each day
- Good Hope Fire House, Friday May 3, 4pm-7pm
- Industry Fire House, Wednesday May 8, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm
- Macomb American Red Cross Building, May 3, 6, and 7, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm each day
- Prairie City Community Center, Monday May 6, 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm
The information that will be collected is:
- Address
- Single family, multiple family (apartments), mobile home, or whether it is a business
- If your structure is owned or rented
- Depth of water in the basement or first floor and was the water from sewer backup only
- Whether the basement has a primary use living space (e.g. bedroom)
- Do you have insurance: home owners, renters, and/or flood insurance
- Is there structural damage such as collapsed walls or cracks
Kreps advises to keep all documentation of damage including: pictures, receipts, a list of possessions damaged or destroyed, and any other documents that may be needed to document the damage.
Keep in mind that there is no guarantee of Federal assistance and the volunteer workers will not have any further information.
