Macomb Library Still Short of Goal

Rich Egger

The Macomb Public Library has just two weeks left to finish raising $794,025, which would allow it to secure a state grant worth $2.38 million.

“We have now only about $94,000 left to go,” said Melissa Inman, co-chair of the committee leading the fundraising campaign.

Inman is confident the fundraising goal can be met, but she said it’s important for those who’ve been thinking about giving to now take action, write a check, and support the campaign.

“I don’t know if an opportunity to receive $2.4 million in grant money will ever come again to Macomb for the library in this way, so we really want to take advantage of it,” Inman said.

Inman said the state won’t extend the fundraising deadline, so the library will be out of luck if the goal is not met by June 30.

Several events are being held to assist with the fundraising.

Inman said an “antiques roadshow” will be held Wednesday, June 19, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on the second floor of the library. Inman said for a donation of $5.00 or more, people can bring in antiques and have them appraised by an expert.

In addition, a performance of The Diary of A Private Woman will be held Friday, June 21, at Hainline Theatre. Performances are scheduled for 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

A “Gospelfest” will take place Saturday, June 22, 7:00 pm (location to be determined), and a magic show will be held at the Macomb Train Depot on Sunday, June 23, 2:00 pm.
