Macomb Returns Land to Private Use

Macomb aldermen feel the city and private citizens can benefit from selling some parcels of public land.

Aldermen this week approved bids for parcel lots on Murray and Pierce Streets.

One of those lots was sold for just $10, but City Administrator Dean Torreson said the city will save money by selling the land cheaply.

“It’s good for us to get rid of it because we don’t have to mow it and maintain it. It would be his responsibility,” Torreson said.

The city will also benefit because the land will now be returned to the tax rolls.

He said the city surveys parcel lots it has acquired over the years to determine what could be sold.

The city has sold two lots this year. Last year, approximately 15 lots were sold, some of which also went for $10.
