The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended the deadline for applying for recovery assistance from this spring’s flooding in Illinois.
Businesses and people affected by the storms now have until August 8 to register. The deadline had been July 24.
FEMA says it extended the deadline another 15 days because it wants to make sure all people affected are able to apply for disaster assistance.
The individual assistance is available to residents of 35 Illinois counties impacted by the flash and river flooding from April 16 to May 5 - it was bad enough that President Barack Obama issued a disaster declaration.
The recovery money can be used to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses.
Individual Assistance Eligibility is available in counties including Brown, Fulton, Henderson, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Pike, Schuyler, and Warren.
The application can be found atdisasterassistance.gov. Applicants can also call 800-621-3362.

FEMA did not indicate it was giving the state, local governments and certain non-profit groups extra time to submit paperwork. 40 Illinois counties are eligible for public assistance to help cover costs of debris removal and to help repair damaged public facilities.
