Anniversary celebration for The Hub in Rushville

Five years ago, The Hub Arts and Cultural Center moved into its new location near downtown Rushville.

The organization has several events planned to mark the occasion.

· Works by some of the artists who exhibited at the Hub during its first four years will be displayed in a new show. The opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. The exhibit continues through Oct. 28.

· A free artist development workshop will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. It will feature Western Illinois University Art Gallery Director Tyler Hennings talking about framing and display. More information can be found on The Hub’s website.

· The Hub is still accepting submissions for the juried exhibit “Open to Interpretation.” The deadline is Friday, Sept. 9. Details can be found on The Hub’s website.

Executive Director Erin Eveland said she’s learned a valuable lesson during five years of running the space.

“To expect the unexpected,” she said with a laugh. “It’s been a lot of ups and downs. The community always surprises me with how well they receive our exhibits. Even the ones I don’t think they will appreciate – those are the ones they tend to enjoy more than I expected.”

Eveland hopes this is just the beginning. She said The Hub wants to serve the community with arts and cultural programming for many years to come.
