Alliance Art Gallery welcomes guest artist Josh McCurdy for the month of September
Alliance Art Gallery welcomes guest artist Josh McCurdy for the month of September. This
popular area artist is known for his amazing pottery, especially his creative pumpkins but he is
highlighting his textured, glazed pots along with a few of his jack-o-lantern creatures for his time
at the gallery.
Josh is a rural Vandalia, MO native who graduated from Mark Twain High School where he now
teaches art at the Junior High and High Schools. This extremely busy and talented artist is well
known for his sculptural pots and is returning to exploring more of his earlier methods of glazed
pots. This new father has also recently started teaching private classes at his pottery studio just
outside of his rural Frankford home.
Josh graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO and has previously taught art at
Canton schools as well as Highland Schools.
Gallery artist Connie Stephens is the September Spotlight artist and is featuring her photographs
of Route 66. Connie has had a very long fascination of this road but never more so than during
this 100 th anniversary. One of Connie’s pieces was accepted into a special exhibit at the Spiva
Gallery in Joplin MO.
Connie has made the trip on many miles of this famous road many times over many years, she is
fascinating to talk with about the highlights of this historic road. Her photographs will be
complete with information about many of the photos. Connie is constantly exploring new
photographic methods and techniques never completely satisfied, often taking online classes to
learn and improve her work.
Both of these artists will be available for you to talk with at the September Second Saturday
event on September 12 th from 4:00 to 7:00. Connie will be giving away one of her photographs
for the drawing that evening. People can sign up to be eligible to win anytime the giveaway
during that day at the gallery. You do not have to be present to win.
