Artist Reception: Justin Hamm

The Hub - Arts and Cultural Center, in Rushville, is delighted to welcome back award winning
poet and artist Justin Hamm. His exhibit Frames of Reference features digital collages created
by Hamm alongside corresponding poems by 17 poets from around the country. This exhibit’s
unique opening reception will be an in-person and virtual hybrid event that will consist of a
virtual poetry reading. Visitors to the gallery can view the work in-person starting at noon on
May 4, 2024. At 1:00 pm, Justin Hamm will host a poetry reading that will be viewable at the
gallery and online. The poetry reading will feature many of the poets in the exhibit.

Originally from the flatlands of central Illinois, Justin Hamm now lives near Twain territory in
Missouri. He is the author of four books of poetry, Drinking Guinness With the Dead: Poems
2007-2021, The Inheritance, American Ephemeral, and Lessons in Ruin, and a book of
photographs entitled Midwestern. He is also the creator of Poet Baseball Cards and the
founding editor of the museum of americana.

Justin has been chosen as a 2022 Woody Guthrie Poet, a 2020 Missouri Arts Council Featured
Artist, a finalist for the 2018 River Styx International Poetry Prize, and the winner of the 2014
Stanley Hanks Memorial Poetry Prize. In 2022 he delivered a performance entitled “The
American Midwest: a Story in Poems” at TEDx Oshkosh.

The Frames of Reference opening reception will take place on May 4th from 12:00 - 2:00
pm. In-person and online artist talk and poetry reading will begin at 1:00 pm.

Exhibit will be on display in The Hub’s gallery from May 4 - June 21, 2024.
