It’s been almost 195 years since Augusta was founded, and the Hancock County community is celebrating in a big way.

The annual Augusta Days is September 18th and 19th with the theme Old Time Rock & Roll. Activities include yard sales, kids’ games, a 5K run, a parade, food, music and the dedication of a veterans’ memorial.
Augusta was founded in 1832 by brothers-in-;aw Joel Catlin and William Abernethy. One of its most famous residents was singing cowboy Smiley Burnette, who portrayed railway engineer Charley Pratt aboard the Hooterville Cannonball on the hit TV show Petticoat Junction.

This year’s Augusta Days parade is at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 along Main Street in the central business district with the theme “Old Time Rock & Roll.”
