Black History Month Panel Discussion

Black History Month Panel Discussion

The Keokuk Association for Rights and Equality (KARE) will be sponsoring a panel consisting of Gwen Scott, nurse practitioner and doctoral candidate, Amber Ruskell-Lamer, science instructor at SCC, Polly Falcon, psychology instructor at SCC, and Alyssa Wessel, practicing nurse, to give information and answer questions on Inequities in Medicine.

Scott says of her career, “As I’ve grown in my experience and worked my way up into the realm of scientific research, I quickly discovered inequities for black and brown people exist. This isn’t because of genetics or
lifestyle choices, but because the system was created without ever considering that minorities are entitled to quality healthcare. I’m thankful for the opportunity to share and bring awareness to the existing problems.”

In honor of Black History Month the panel presentation will be in the Round Room of the Keokuk Public Library on February 23 from 6-7 pm. Come hear how representation can increase positive outcomes for people of color.
