The McDonough County Health Department will be holding an 8-hour ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited Certified Food Protection Manager class on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, with a review and the exam following on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 1pm. In Illinois, food establishments are required to be under the supervision of a certified food protection manager in accordance with the state Food Code and adopted FDA Food Code.
Restaurants with managers certified in food safety are less likely to have foodborne illness outbreaks, they have better food safety practices, better ratings and fewer priority violations on their inspections.
Certificates are valid for five years after successful completion of the course and passing the exam.

Cottage Food Operators are also required to possess CFPM credentials.
