Hancock County Fights Cancer will hold their fall event from 6 to 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at
The Legacy Theater in Carthage. Everyone can help in this fight.
The public is welcomed to attend this free event to share in the celebration of cancer
survivors, enjoy the entertainment, and make donations to help fight cancer or help those who
are now in the battle against cancer. Food and drink will be available outside the theater
starting at 4 p.m.
Again this year, proceeds will be split with 60 percent going to HUGS of Hancock County, a cancer
support group, and 40 percent going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. There are several
ways to support the cause, in advance or at the event.
Lights of Hope will line the halls of the theater. These can be purchased in honor of a cancer survivor,
someone currently battling cancer, or in memory of a cancer victim. Forms are available now for $5 at
Fortress Bank in Carthage, at the Hancock County treasurer’s office, and at Lilly’s Sweets and Treats.
Lights of Hope are just $5. The names will be read during the evening.
Tickets are available for two half-a-hog prizes, donated by Randy and Rose Scheetz, with processing
by Farmhouse Meats. The winner need not to be present to receive the prize. Tickets are available at
the event, or buy one now at Fortress Bank, at the Hancock County Treasurer’s Office in the Hancock
County Courthouse or from any HCFC team member.
A live auction will feature gifts from each team and many other businesses and individuals in the area.
These auction items should be brought to Fortress Bank by Sept. 15.
Donation jars will be on hand during the event.
The deadline to order survivor shirts has passed, however survivors can still register to attend the event
and be honored during the survivor celebration. Find a form on the website,
hancockcountyfightscancer.org, stop in at Fortress Bank in Carthage, call Joy Swearingen at 217-357-
4989, or come on the night of the tribute.
All survivors should check-in on the night of the event, starting at 5 p.m., in the lobby of The Legacy
Theater.
