History Belongs to All of Us: Conversation on the Autobiography, "Life of Ma-Ka-Tai-Me-She-Kia-Kiak"

The Western Illinois Museum will host the next History Belongs to All of Us community conversation on Thursday, June 18, focusing on the 1833 autobiography Life of Ma-Ka-Tai-Me-She-Kia-Kiak, or Black Hawk.
Through the words of Sauk leader and warrior Black Hawk, participants will explore the relationship between people and land, examining themes of migration, land use, and ownership. The conversation invites community members to consider how different perspectives shape our understanding of American history and the meaning of place in Illinois.
Programs in the History Belongs to All of Us series are held at the Western Illinois Museum on Thursdays, beginning with Larry A’s Pizza from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by conversation and dessert at 6:30 p.m. A suggested $5 donation will be accepted at the door.
The statewide History Belongs to All of Us initiative, created and supported by Illinois Humanities, encourages communities to connect local stories with the nation’s 250th anniversary through dialogue, primary sources, and shared experiences.
The Western Illinois Museum is located at 201 S. Lafayette Street in Macomb. For more information, visit wimuseum.org, follow @wimuseum on social media, call 309-837-2750, text 309-837-2613, or email info@wimuseum.org.
