KARE Juneteenth Event
KARE Juneteenth Event
The Keokuk Association for Rights and Equality (KARE) was formed in April of 2014 by local residents. KARE is an organization devoted to promoting justice and appreciating diversity. We have met with city officials, police and sheriff departments, school officials, employers, and others with an interest in working towards a community that is safer and more welcoming.
This year will be KARE’s 3rd annual Juneteenth celebration. Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. In 2021, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was signed.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, KARE will host a Food Truck Event on 11th and Main in Keokuk. Trucks will park along the street and serve food from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be music. We will advertise this event through Facebook, the local newspaper, mail and flyers.
