Singer-Songwriter Shanna in a Dress Brings Wit, Heart, and Unfiltered Storytelling to Bishop Hill
BISHOP HILL, Illinois—Crossroads Cultural Connections is excited to present an unforgettable evening with singer-songwriter Shanna in a Dress on Thursday, April 9 at Bishop Hill Creative Commons.
The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with an optional potluck dinner, offering guests a chance to gather and connect before the performance. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish to share if they wish to participate. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM.
Known for her bold honesty, clever humor, and emotionally rich songwriting, Shanna in a Dress delivers performances that are as entertaining as they are deeply relatable. Often described as a blend of John Prine, Ingrid Michaelson, and a touch of Phoebe Buffay, her music combines sharp wit with heartfelt vulnerability—sometimes within the same song.
Shanna’s shows are anything but predictable. With spontaneous banter, playful stage presence, and a fearless approach to tackling complex subjects, she takes audiences on an emotional roller coaster that is both disarming and unforgettable. Her songs are marked by inventive wordplay, candid storytelling, and a refreshing authenticity that resonates with listeners of all ages.
Originally launching her career at the University of Virginia, Shanna later found her creative footing in Boulder, Colorado, and now calls Nashville home when she’s not touring across the United States and Europe. Her growing list of accolades includes winning the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriting Contest, the Kerrville New Folk Competition, and the Great River Folk Fest Song Competition, along with recognition as a finalist and emerging artist at several of the country’s most respected folk festivals.
In 2021, she embarked on her ambitious “Tour de Dress,” bicycling from Seattle to Boston while performing over 60 shows along the way—an experience that reflects both her adventurous spirit and deep commitment to connecting with audiences. Her debut album Robot, released in 2022 following a successful crowdfunding campaign, further established her as a rising voice in contemporary folk and Americana.
Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, this concert continues the organization’s mission of bringing engaging, high-quality live music to rural communities.
The event is open to all ages, with a suggested donation of $20–$30, 100% of which goes directly to the performers, supporting artists and sustaining live music.
