The Hub – Arts & Cultural Center Joins Illinois Humanities' Community Conversations Program
[Rushville, IL] — The Hub – Arts & Cultural Center is proud to announce its partnership
with Illinois Humanities to bring Community Conversations to the region. This free,
public program series creates space for shared conversation, activity, learning, and
connection through themes that inspire and resonate with Illinoisans across the state.
In partnership with twelve Illinois communities, Community Conversations explores local
history through facilitated conversations and humanities-driven activities that center
curiosity and active listening, encourage fresh perspectives, and highlight the wealth
that comes from remaining connected to one another.
2026 Theme: History Belongs to All of Us
Illinois Humanities' 2026 Community Conversations theme commemorates the 250th
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States
through the lens of Illinois history. The series emphasizes the joy of investigating history
in its most direct form; primary documents and artifacts. Participants will be encouraged
to investigate and interpret primary documents from the state's archives and to engage
with material history through collected objects and historic sites.
First Session: The Declaration of Independence
The opening session will focus on the Declaration of Independence itself. The goal is
not only to reacquaint participants with the founding document of the United States, but
to consider how it asserts a form of government that empowers a free and equal
citizenry in contrast to “tyrannical” monarchy. Delicious snacks will be provided by The
Bread Basket.
