The Western Illinois Museum invites the community to an afternoon of film, food, and conversation with a screening of the inspiring documentary Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am on Sunday, August 2, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Museum. Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for Larry A's pizza, dessert, and conversation. A suggested $5 donation will be collected at the door. Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am runs approximately two hours and is not rated.
Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am is an intimate and visually rich portrait of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison that explores her extraordinary life, literary legacy, and enduring influence on American culture. The documentary features Morrison's own reflections, archival footage, and interviews with writers, artists, and cultural leaders, including Angela Davis, Oprah Winfrey, Walter Mosley, and Fran Lebowitz. It celebrates her groundbreaking work while examining themes of race, history, identity, and storytelling. Featuring original music by Kathryn Bostic and artwork by acclaimed contemporary African American artists, this engaging documentary offers both an introduction to and new insights into one of America's most influential voices.
