During the month, former Macomb High School teacher and coach Daniel Watson and former Hamilton School Board member Dion Gregory both learned their sentences for inappropriate conduct with minors. A Burlington man was sentenced for starting a fire at a church in that town. Four young people from Burlington were killed when two boats collided on the Mississippi River.
Keokuk learned it will be losing its police chief and its school superintendent. A proposed large-scale hog farm in McDonough County was granted permission to begin construction.
News Director Rich Egger talked to Civil Rights leader C.T. Vivian, who grew up in Macomb and was back in town for the Dealing With Difference Institute. Vivian worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the American Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and '60s.
Reporter Jason Parrott profiled four southeast Iowa schools where classes were held for the final time, and Egger reported on an art project that brought together students at the Macomb-based alternative school Project Insight.
