One dead, two injured in Galesburg shooting

Suspects are in custody following a shooting in Galesburg that killed one person and injured two others.

Galesburg police responded around 4:20 a.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at 1517 McKnight Street, which is part of the Cedar Creek Place public housing complex.

A male was found dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.

A second male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was taken by ambulance to OSF St Mary Medical Center. A female shooting victim was taken by private vehicle to that hospital.

Both were later transferred to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for further treatment

The victims’ identities have not been released.

Police said the incident is under investigation.

This is the first deadly shooting in Galesburg in 2022.

It follows a spate of homicides and gun violence last year that prompted law enforcement officials to launch a task force.

A trial in one of those homicides began Friday in Knox County court.

In that case, Maquesha Ramey is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Rachel Likes, who was shot multiple times while sitting in her car in the 300 block of West First Street on Jan. 4, 2021.

The trial continues Monday.
