Bald Eagles Soar Above Keokuk

Keokuk, IA – The cold weather was welcome during Keokuk's 23rd annual Bald Eagle Appreciation Days. For a bald eagle, the colder the day... the better. These majestic creatures spend their time either perched in a tree, flying overhead, or swooping down to catch a fish. Lee County Park Ranger Jon Tharp says Keokuk is actually one of the best places to watch eagles because food is always available as the river remains open below the dam. He says this year could have been different, though, had the recent cold weather not interrupted a relatively mild winter.
