COVID-19 Outbreak at Assisted Living Facility in Macomb

Rich Egger

The McDonough County Health Department (MCHD) said there is an outbreak of the novel coronavirus at The Lamoine.

The department said the state defines an outbreak at an assisted living facility as one or more positive cases along with other cases of people at the facility who are ill with symptoms. The MCHD said it is working to identify those who have been in contact with the residents.

The Lamoine has 21 studio and one-bedroom assisted living apartments. It is located in downtown Macomb and licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

The MCHD is also reporting five new cases of COVID-19 in the county:

  • ·   A male in his teens
  • ·   A male in his 20s
  • ·   A female in her 20s
  • ·   A female in her 30s
  • ·   A male in his 50s

McDonough County now has 12 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.
The county health department continued urging people to follow guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the IDPH:

  • ·   Wear cloth face masks when in public
  • ·   Maintain social distancing
  • ·   Abide by the state’s stay-at-home order

The MCHD said the guidelines will help protect those who are most vulnerable to contracting the virus.
