Enterprise Zone Status Granted to Western Grain Marketing

Macomb, IL – The McDonough County Enterprise Zone has been extended out to include the site of Western Grain Marketing at Routes 136 and 41.

Excavation work has started, rock has been hauled in, and concrete is being poured at the Co-Op. Growmark Grain Division Director, Larry Keene says because the project has been granted its Enterprise Zone Status, sales tax on construction materials for the site will be exempt.

Keene feels the project will have a nice influence on improving grain profitability for farmers in the area. He says the facility is being built in a way so trucks can be unloaded fast, so farmers do not have to wait in line to bring grain in.

Keene says the project is set to be complete next June. He adds the goal is to have the grain shuttles up and running to load trains in August of next year. He says WGM will hire about five full-time and three part-time employees. The overall cost of the project is roughly 26-million dollars.

*The project is made up of four members: Growmark, Two Rivers FS, Riverland FS, and West Central FS.
