The crash scene

Illinois State Police report a Macomb man died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash Wednesday afternoon.

Timothy Sullivan, 64, was taken to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb and later to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he was pronounced dead.

State Police said Sullivan was northbound on Route 67, driving a John Deere 4430 tractor in the right lane.  The tractor was struck from behind by a Kenworth box truck driven by Gregory Jones, 28, of Nevada, Iowa.

Sullivan was thrown from the tractor.

Jones’ truck left the road and ended up in the grassy median.

Jones was not injured.  He was ticketed for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

State Police said the investigation is on-going.

The McDonough County Sheriff’s Department, Air Evac Team, Lifeguard Ambulance Service, Good Hope Fire Department, and Macomb Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The crash backed up traffic in the northbound lanes of Route 67 for several hours Wednesday afternoon.
