FBI Raids Former Congressman Aaron Schock's Campaign Office

Federal agents took boxes of items from Schock's campaign office.

Several FBI agents raided the Peoria campaign office of former Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) Thursday.  A nearby business owner said the agents spent more than six hours at the office loading boxes into a truck.

The agency's action came one day after Schock’s former assistant, Sarah Rogers, testified before a federal grand jury.  She handled travel and expense reimbursements for Schock when he served in Congress.

U.S. Attorney's office spokeswoman Sharon Paul declined to comment.

Schock resigned in March following media reports about improper spending. The Justice Department has issued subpoenas to at least half a dozen current and former Schock staff members as it examines his expense accounts, campaign spending, and relationships with donors.

Schock’s former communications director, Benjamin Cole, spent two hours answering grand jury questions in early May.

Schock easily won re-election in November, 2014.  A special election is being held to replace him.

Early voting is already underway for the special primary, which will be held July 7.  The special general election is scheduled for September 10.

Those vying to win the seat include Republicans Darin LaHood, Donald Rients, and Michael Flynn. The Democratic candidates are Rob Mellon and Adam Lopez.
