Macomb Begins Search for New Superintendent

School board President Dan Colvin says it received a “great gift” of time when Superintendent Alene Reuschel announced she would retire next year.

Colvin says the task of filling the position is one of the most important duties for board members. He says it will hire a search firm to perform many tasks that would be time-consuming or difficult for the board such as criminal background checks and reference checks.

He says, “We're not necessarily going to go with the lowest bidder. But we do know that there's a wide range of expectations that we have for them and there's also a commensurate wide range of fee structures.”

Colvin says the board will evaluate at least seven search firms. He says the board hopes to choose a firm by the end of the month. He expects the board will hire a new superintendent by mid-November.

Colvin says the the new superintendent will have plenty of time to communicate with Reuschel to learn about and the district.
