The Company Behind the W. Va. Mining Accident
International Coal Group owns the Sago mine where 13 miners are trapped. ICG is a relatively new company that was formed in May 2004 and acquired the assets of several bankrupt coal companies. In the months since then, U.S. officials say the number of safety violations at the company's mines has risen.

A 'Most Happy' Discovery: Loesser's Demo Tapes
When Broadway musical composer Frank Loesser wrote his shows, he made demo recordings to demonstrate to the cast what the songs sound like. Those demos were discovered years later by Joseph Weiss, the copyright manager of Paul McCartney's publishing company, which acquired Loesser's publishing company in 1979.

Retailer Federated to Buy Rival May for $11 Billion
Federated Department Stores plans to acquire May Department Stores for more than $11 billion in cash and stock. Federated owns Macy's and Bloomingdale's among other retail chains. May operates Lord & Taylor, Marshall Field's and others. The combined company will have about 1,000 stores and nearly $30 billion in annual sales.

Sotheby's Has Record Auction With Works By Giacometti, Van Gogh
On Tuesday night, Sotheby's brought in its highest total yet for a single auction: more than $422 million dollars. The record total owed a lot to the sale of two works — a Giacometti sculpture that went for $101 million and Van Gogh's "Still Life with Daisies and Poppies" fetched $61.8 million.
