Media Literacy Bill Signed in Illinois

The new law will require Illinois public schools to teach students skills to identify misinformation.

Democratic State Senator Karina Villa said the internet has become a place for students to debate and discuss social issues and politics. But Villa and other Democrats also believe children are vulnerable to persecution and misinformation online.

Republican lawmakers voted against the bill. They felt the measure fails to define who should be considered a good or bad source of information.
