The first home football game of the year for Western Illinois University is September 14 against Montana State University. While the athletic department hopes fans bring their team spirit to Hanson Field, it hopes they leave a few things at home.


Acting WIU President Dr. Martin Abraham took part in his first University Assembly  Thursday morning, delivering a nearly hour-long speech to hundreds of faculty, administrators and staff members in Western Hall on the Macomb Campus and to countless others watching online. The bulk of his time was spent on a single topic.

Macomb area children ages 9-to-14 can learn about science and technology by building robots using Legos.  They do so in the First Lego League Robotics Club put on by Genesis Garden, 4-H, Western Illinois University, and the University of Illinois’ extension office.


Dr. William "Bill" Brattain, 77, passed away Fri., Dec. 25 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. His career in higher education included more than 25 years at Western Illinois University.

Western Illinois University has a national reputation for being good to student veterans and service members. Military Times ranks Western in the top 20 percent of all universities, colleges, and trade schools in the country. Western is "military friendly" because it's affordable, classes are small, the university counts some armed forces training towards college credit, and Western has one of the first Veterans Resource Centers in the state.
