A weekly roundup of news from around the region.

Macomb man sentenced in child sexual assault case

A McDonough County judge sentenced a Macomb man to 45 years in prison on three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Joshua Dye, 26, was convicted in April following a three-day trial.

Dye was sentenced on Thursday, July 18, to 15 years for each count. They must be served consecutively and he must serve at least 85 percent of each.

Dye received credit for 425 days already served.

In issuing the sentence, Judge Nigel Graham referred to the “extreme depravity” of the crimes -- the victim was under the age of five.

The McDonough County State’s Attorney’s office said Frontline Forensics of Western Illinois, the Advocacy Network for Children, the Western Illinois Regional Council, and the Macomb Police Department assisted with the case.

Galesburg man arrested for shooting son

A Galesburg man faces multiple charges after shooting his 31-year-old son.

Police say Brian Swise, 58, shot his son July 16 after an argument, then called 911 to report the shooting.

The victim suffered three gunshot wounds and was taken to a Peoria hospital for treatment.

Swise is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He remains in custody at the Knox County jail after a judge granted a petition to detain him.

Kambra Ware, 24, of Biggsville must serve at least 85-percent of the sentence.

Upon release, he will also be under supervised release for three years up to life, and he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Ware was found guilty on May 13 of four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault following a bench trial before Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Raymond Cavanaugh.

He was sentenced on July 10.

Illinois State Police, the Henderson County Sheriff’s office, and the Macomb Police Department participated in the investigation of the case.
